CathShield

Partnering with the Mayo Clinic for our Biomedical Engineering Capstone Project, my team and I focused on creating a device with the aim of preventing infection for hemodialysis catheter patients. The device is meant to be attached to the ends of the lumens of the catheter to help prevent the ingress of bacteria along with creating an environment where bacteria cannot grow. Some other important design inputs and user needs included creating a device that was compatible with the body and lifestyle of patients, prevents the movement of the catheter caps and lumens, and does not impede current standard protocols.
