As part of the BMED 2310: Introduction to Biomedical Engineering Design course, my team and I were tasked with finding and addressing a current medical need. My team identified that people with visual impairments need to independently complete and interpret the results of at-home COVID-19 diagnostic tests. Our solution had two main aspects to it. First, there was the physical test kit with a more inclusive design. It allowed individuals to be able to easily differentiate and use the respective parts of the test kit. The second part of the solution was a mobile application that would guide the user through the test and allow users to take a picture to provide an auditory response to their respective test result.
